.MASSABNY Richard J. Massabny “Rich” March 29, 1936 – March 18, 2017 On Saturday, March 18, 2017, Rich Massabny passed away peacefully at his home in Arlington with his wife by his side. Massabny was a local cable television personality. For nearly 30 years he was a theatre and restaurant reviewer on the popular “Arlington Weekly News TV” program (channel 69). He was also the host and producer of “Rich’s Place”, a cooking show with celebrity chefs and “Conversations with Rich,” an hour long talk show on Fairfax County’s cable channel 10. Massabny was a welcome staple at theatre openings and was known to promote local community theatre productions, He was the recipient of many accolades and awards recognizing his interviewing skills. He was the longest running critic in the D.C. area. Rich was well known for his engaging personality, sense of humor, love of animals and music. He was born in Brooklyn, NY but lived in Arlington for 60+ years. He was a former Board of Directors member of Second Chance Employment, past chairman of the Ms. Senior America-Virginia pageant, , an occasional judge for the Taste of Arlington and an active member of the Boulevard Manor Civic Association. Massabny is survived by his wife of 48 years, Judy, sister-in-law Terri Taylor of Falls Church, brother-in-law Jeff Taylor and wife Becky, Glenwood, MD, brother Ronald Massabny of Annapolis, six nieces and nephews, Casey, Billy, Kirby, Madison, Cooper and Rachel. Funeral arrangements include visitation, Wednesday, March 22, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Murphy’s Funeral Home, 4510 Wilson Blvd., Arlington. Funeral service will be held at Murphy’s, Thursday, March 23, 1 p.m., followed by a reception for family and friends in the Fellowship Hall at the Arlington Church of the Brethren, 400 N. Montague Street. Donations to the Animal Welfare League of Arlington are encouraged (www.awla.org).Condolences may be sent to Judy Massabny. A Committal Service will be held on Friday, March 24, at 1:p.m. at National Memorial Park in Falls Church. Va.
