Obituary of Mary Heagy

IN THE CARE OF

Ross Funeral Service

On November 11, 2018, Mary Willimina (nee Taylor, Jacobs) Heagy departed this world to join her heavenly Father. Mary was born near McCord on April 25, 1926, the second child to Charles (d1976) and Willimina (d1926) (Jones) Taylor. She is also predeceased by her second mother Katherine (1929) and Ethel (1985). In her early years she spent a lot of time with the Jones grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Times were hard but she graduated high school and went to Normal School becoming a teacher. Her first job was in the Canopus district where she met and married Alois Jacobs in 1948. They had three children. Charlotte (Dieter) Legien; Elizabeth (Calvin) Kirby; Vernon (Gail) Jacobs. Alois was killed in a farm accident in 1962 and the family moved to Rockglen where she worked as a bookkeeper at the Rockglen Co-op. In 1976 she married a widower, Erwin Heagy (d1987) and became Mom to his four children, Arlene Heagy; Dallas (Sharon) Heagy; Lynn (Ralph) Ager; Lorraine (Dan) Duxbury. Mary is survived by her sister Dorothy Falk of British Columbia and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews to remember her. She is predeceased by two brothers, Gordon Taylor (d2008) and Cecil Taylor (d1962) and two grandchildren, Brent Johnson (d2017) and Jeremy Ager (d2017). Mary’s family was her greatest joy and she loved having people stop by for a visit, serving coffee and cake or to share a meal. Growing up on a farm and being a farm wife, she always worked hard and enjoyed the animals, gardening and the beauty of nature, especially the trees and flowers. Living in Rockglen she was very involved in her church, curling, bowling, board games, ceramics, singing, sewing and reading. Mom also liked doing macramé when that was popular and gifted several of us with her projects. She took many trips with Erwin, going to the Maritimes, BC and the states, also fishing in northern Saskatchewan. After Erwin passed, she took bus trips to several places and also an overseas trip to the British Isles with her sister. After moving to Assiniboia in November 1999 she continued with many of these activities and enjoyed the friendships she formed at Eastside Court, driving her friends to events around Assiniboia and the neighbouring communities. As she became more dependent she moved to Prairie Villa and then Ross Payant Centennial Nursing Home. Mom suffered from anxiety and depression but when things were tough she was “a rock”. Her faith gave her inner peace and strength; she was a survivor, always very independent and resourceful. We will miss your generosity and faithfulness, Mom, thank you for always being there for us. Funeral service was held at the Rockglen Community Hall on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 1:30 pm. Pastor Lawrence Hahn officiated. Music ministry was by pianist Tricia Kirby (substituted by Trish Manske), vocals led by Sharon Heagy. Beautiful tributes were given by family members. Tribute from the grandchildren was given by Marsha Reimer. Pallbearers were: Nathan Kirby (substituted by Curt Jacobs), Tyler Kirby, Braeden Ager, Cody Heagy, Adam Duxbury, Roman Duxbury. Due to weather conditions, Nathan and Tricia were unable to attend. A powerpoint created by Sephanie Wentland in memory of Mary was presented. Interment followed at Quantock Cemetery. Donations were gratefully accepted for the Comfort Room at the Ross Payant Centennial Home. Expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.rossfuneralservice.com. With much appreciation from the family, arrangements were entrusted to Ross Funeral Service, Assiniboia, SK.
