Irene Mable Hove Born: August 4, 1929 at Stony Plain, Alberta Died: July 4, 2018 at Barrhead, Alberta Irene is survived by: sons Art, Ron (Darlene), Dennis (Rose), daughter Doreen, daughter in-laws Judy and Marianne, sister Annie Pearson and sister in-law Isabelle Hove. She leaves 14 grandchildren; Tracy, Keri, Shawn, Shonna, Shannan, Misty, Ryan, Stacey, Trevor, Calvin, Jackie, Emmy, Stephanie and Oliver as well as 19 great-grandchildren, friends and relatives. She was predeceased by: husband of 62 years Oliver, son Rollie and grandson Kevin. Irene’s parents Henry & Molly Zeiler migrated from Russia to the U.S. with 3 children in 1912. They moved to the Stony Plain area in 1914 and their family grew to 11 children (Anna, Alex, Henry, Mary, Minnie, Esther, John, Lydia, Frieda, Irene and Annie). In 1932 the family moved 5 miles north of Onoway. Irene and sister Freida married the Hove brothers Oliver and Clifford in 1947. Oliver and Irene began their marriage living with Oliver’s parents on the family farm in the Rich Valley area. Like many farm women of the time, she managed her chores without power, running water or other modern conveniences. In the first 3 years, Irene had 3 boys, Art, Ron and Dennis. Rollie and Doreen followed later. Irene and Oliver’s home was always busy with numerous visitors as well as friends and hired hands who stayed with the family throughout the years. Many have called the farm their home for a period of time, and Irene kept all well fed while milking cows and caring for everyone. She loved playing cards, knitting and crocheting whenever she had time. Irene would cook almost anything and make it delicious. Her grandchildren especially loved her baked bread and buns. Irene was involved with the Rich Valley Ladies Club from its inception in 1968 until her move to a senior’s facility in Barrhead following Oliver’s passing. She enjoyed volunteering in the community and cherished her friendships during that time. In her final years Irene so appreciated the support from niece Evelyn Lewoniuk and daughter in-law Judy Hove. The family would also like to extend a thank you to staff and volunteers at Hillcrest and Keir Care Centre. Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday July 11, 2018 from Rose Garden Chapel, Barrhead, AB. Thank you Mom for looking after us so well, for your love and care, we are forever grateful. Art, Ron, Dennis and Doreen.
