IN THE CARE OF

Rose Garden Chapel

Rose Schuman of Barrhead, AB passed away October 11, 2018 at the U of A Hospital at the age of 87 years. Rose was christenened Rosa Maria Assenheimer, born in Barrhead to Bertha & Reinhold Assenheimer. Home was at Lunnford, this land was a homestead. When Rose and her twin Haddie were about 12, their Dad, Reinhold presented the girls with a mandolin and a guitar. He recognized their musical gifts and paid with his hard earned money working at the winter saw mill. The girls were self-taught and went on to sing and play at weddings, parties, family gatherings and sang in choirs. They even cut a record with Search for Talent. Rose met and fell in love with Albert Schuman. They married in 1952 and moved into two wooden granaries on Ab's quarter section in the Naples/Shoal Creek area. David was born in 1954 and Donald in 1956. When Ab's father and mother moved to Barrhead the family took over the home place. Mixed farming was not an easy life and the family moved to Barrhead in 1968 to the miracle of indoor plumbing. In town along with their jobs Rose & Ab became involved in golf, curling and my Dad bowled. They enjoyed camping as long as I can remember. Every summer there was a two week vacation even when we farmed. Rose served as secretary/treasurer of the Midnight Twilight Tourist Association for many years. She was also a lifetime member and awarded artist of the Barrhead Art Club. She passed on her love of art and music to her three grandsons – Mitchell, Jeffrey and Spencer. Camping, fishing and golf were joyous family events that have created indelible memories. The frog on my Dad's head in the trailer. Tragically there were losses - The Deceased are: Son Donald (too young), husband Albert All of my mother's siblings: sister Haddie (too young), Sister Alma Brothers: Ed, Gordon, George and Alex Such a wonderful group of people. Survived by: son, David; grandchildren, Mitchell, Jeffrey and Spencer; sister in laws, Grace & Elsie Assenheimer, numerous nieces and nephews and their children. My mother will be Greatly Missed and Fondly Remembered. Thank you to the Barrhead Hospital Staff and especially the U of A staff for the excellent care provided to my mother. Services will be held at the Christ Lutheran Church, Mellowdale, Friday the 19th of October at 1:00 p.m., Pastor Al Lewis presiding. Interment to follow the service. A lunch will follow for all who knew and loved Rose, and for the fellowship of relatives, friends and neighbors.
