Obituary of George Elliott Evans
George Elliott Evans died at Blossom Grove Alzheimer's Special Care Center in Redlands, CA on September 28, 2019. George was born to Byron and Pearl Evans on April 3, 1930 in Port Huron, Michigan. George was a man who embraced life. He loved his mother and three older sisters who raised him in Port Huron. After completing high school George served our country in the Air Force before he met and married Mary E Harrelson. George and Mary raised two daughters, Teresa and Lisa, in Fontana, CA. After the passing of Mary in 1975, George met and married Beverly Lenderman in 1978. George was hired as a draftsman in 1958 by Marquardt Corp, which later became Safetran Systems. He worked as a Production Control Supervisor and retired as a Purchasing Manager in 1993. George ran and completed the Los Angeles Marathon at the age of 66. Through his love of running he became involved in the Angeles Crest 100 Mile Endurance Run, serving as a volunteer and Race Director while living in Wrightwood, CA. George was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was active with the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls. In 1993, he was appointed California State Rainbow Dad. He traveled extensively throughout the state during his term of office and continued to have a presence within the organization for many years. George was able to golf frequently after he and Bev moved to Sun Lakes in Banning, CA in 2002. George could often be found sitting on his patio watching the freight trains pass in the distance with a dog on his lap. George and Bev enjoyed cruises as well as camping trips to Silent Valley Trailer Resort until Bev's passing in 2010. George was known as a friendly happy man, a good neighbor and a social guy. He enjoyed dancing as well as stopping by a neighbor's house to simply say hello. He was a lover of dogs throughout his life, often having one at his side. George's daughters would like to thank all those who contributed to the quality of their father's life in his last years, especially Harriett, his last love. George will be missed. All are welcome to join in celebrating George's life. Charitable donations can be made in memory of George Elliott Evans to Alzheimer's Association at alz.org or California Rainbow Girls Foundation at gocarainbow.org
