John "Lou" Edward Atkinson

John E. “Lou” Atkinson, age 95, of Martinsville, died Monday evening (05/20/2019) at The Waters in Martinsville. Born November 11, 1923 in Indianapolis, he was the son of Isaac J. and Anna (Ryan) Atkinson. Mr. Atkinson worked in the insurance industry, was an underwriter and retired as the vice-president of Indiana Insurance Company (Liberty Mutual). He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Center in Bloomington and was a U.S. Army veteran of W.W. II. Mr. Atkinson is survived by his sons, Joe (Susan) Atkinson, of Bloomington and John (Lori) Atkinson, of San Francisco, California, his daughter, Mary (Steve)Speth, of Martinsville, ten grandchildren, Heather Schneider, Amy Edwards, Greg Speth, Nicholas Speth, Katie Towne, Ian Atkinson, Philip Atkinson, Sarah Mercado-Atkinson , Hazel Franz and Zoe Franz, and five great-grandchildren Molly Schneider, Aiden Edwards, MJ Towne, Gabriel Towne and Ava Atkinson. Mr. Atkinson was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Hilda (Weisenbach) Atkinson and one grandson, John Avery Atkinson. A mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, May 30 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church; 1709 E. Harrison St; Martinsville. Entombment will follow in Sunland Memorial Park in Sun City, Arizona at a later date.
