Obituary of Madeline (Madie) Elizabeth Boone
Madeline lived independently from 1997 until 2012 when she suffered a serious accident which changed her life style radically. She was forced to spend the remainder of her years in a full care home. Madie passed away peacefully at Dania Home, Burnaby, in her 95th year. Madeline was predeceased by her husband Robert (Bob), son Wayne Smith, sister Evelyn (Gordie Oldaker; Howard Vernon) and brother Earl (Kay) Gasall. Lovingly survived by her daughter Cheryl Madeline Stevenson (Ronald), daughter-in-law Tracey Smith, many step-grandchildern, great-grandchilderen and great-great-grandchildren. Madeline was born in Saskatoon, Sask., to Arthur and Grace Gasall as the second of three children. Her early years were spent there until the family moved to Penticton in 1937 where she attended high school. In 1944 they moved to Vancouver where she eventually married and raised her family. She loved to dance! Bowling at a semi-professional level, she won many trophies. Madie played shuffleboard and also enjoyed word search puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, playing Rumoli, cribbage and Uno. RVing was always fun, and in 1977 she and Bob bought recreational property at The Glen at Maple Falls. For 18 years, family and friends (old and new) enjoyed spending time with them at The Glen. Potlucks, campfires, jokes and conversations were shared and a good time was had by all. In her mid-eighties Madeline discovered a talent for watercolour painting. As a hardworking bookkeeper, computer operator, office manager and mother, Madeline’s family and active social life kept her well-rounded. We will remember her beautiful smile, undying spirit and love of life. A celebration of her life for family and friends will be held on Sunday, February 10th at 2:00 p.m. A reception will follow the service at 3:00 p.m.
