Mrs. Mara Sladakovic

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear mom and grandmother. Mara will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Lily and Milica, her son-in-law Kurt and her three grandchildren, Nikola, Daniel and Kristina who she loved deeply. Mara is survived by her two sisters, Jela and Milka and brother Stevo. In January 1971, she married the late Uros Sladakovic and shortly thereafter immigrated to Canada settling in Vancouver. For many years Mara was a stay at home mom raising her daughters as Uros was out of town working. Eventually as her daughters grew older and her husband began working in the lower mainland, she ventured out and entered the workforce. She enjoyed her new found independence and loved working. Like every good Serbian domaćica (housewife) Mara loved to cook, bake, garden and keep a clean house. She loved to crotchet doilies of all shapes and sizes along with many full-sized table clothes; she could also be found needlepointing and knitting baby dresses, sweaters, booties or blankets for anyone she heard was expecting. Mara treasured her grandchildren and embraced every moment spent with them. Baba could always be found trying to force them to eat, even when they were full; giving them piggy back rides; taking them to the park and playing games with them in the backyard. Mara had a great sense of humor and would spend hours on the phone with her dear friends; having fun-filled conversations any chance she could. She will be missed. The Funeral Service will take place at St. Archangel Michael Serbian Church, 7837 Canada Way, Burnaby, BC on Friday April 12, 2019 at 10:00 am, followed by the Graveside Service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with reception to follow at the Balkan House Restaurant, 7530 Edmonds Street, Burnaby, BC.
