Yvonne Catherine Walker

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Mum/Oumi. Yvonne is survived by her children; Beverley Bowen (Gary) of Victoria, BC; Nigel Walker (Cathy); and Melanie Macauley (Kevin) of North Vancouver; grandchildren: Kyla, Caitlyn, Mara, Nathan and Madison; her siblings Jean, Muriel, Cecile and George (Australia); Louie, and Pamela (South Africa) Pre-deceased by: her husband Neville; parents George & Louie Scharneck; siblings Leon, Stanley, Maureen, Tony and Patricia. Yvonne married, the love of her life in South Africa, they settled in Southhampton, UK where their children were born, and immigrated to Vancouver, BC Canada in July, 1964. Yvonne lost Neville to an accidental drowning in 1969; and she went on to raise their 3 children, on her own, in the City of North Vancouver. In her retirement, Yvonne lived in Chilliwack, BC where she attended St Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, was active in volunteer work, and walking and spending time with the many good friends that she made there. Yvonne was a gourmet cook, she was always experimenting with new foods and recipes, she made the best pies and loved to entertain. She loved to laugh and make people laugh with her quick wit and keen sense of humour. With an eclectic taste in music she could be heard singing and seen dancing or relaxing along to her large collection of recordings. Yvonne was a seamstress and knitter extraordinaire; talents that she used to design and make children’s clothing, which she sold at juried craft fairs and on consignment in select children’s clothing stores. She enjoyed knitting, sewing for and doing crafts with, her 5 beloved grand-children. Yvonne/Mum/Oumi lived with progressive dementia for the last 15 years of her life. We would like to thank the staff of Inglewood Care Centre as well as mum’s special friend Susan Westcott for the loving care and compassion they provided for our mum. In lieu of flowers, her family would appreciate it if you would consider making a donation, in loving memory of Yvonne Catherine Walker, to the Alzheimer’s Society of BC.
