Nellie Strang

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful mom, grandma, great-grandma, auntie and friend. Nellie passed away peacefully on May 31, 2019 at the age of 92. Her husband Robert predeceased Nellie in 2003; they were married for 52 years. Robert and Nellie settled in Yarrow in 1958 where together they raised six children: Wayne (Zoe), Ron, Rob, Susan Fleming (Kerry), Brad (Debbie) and Cathy Meeres. Nellie loved spending time with her many grand children, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and loved them all dearly. She loved to laugh and was always accepting of others no matter what. Family and holiday traditions were important to her. She often hosted large gatherings, cooking and baking for days on end. She enjoyed sewing and took on many projects, even bridesmaid and flower girl dresses, she did it all! Later on, she took up quilting, often gifting her accomplishments to family members. Mom was also an avid gardener. It came naturally to her and she enjoyed sharing her harvest and passing on her enthusiasm of gardening to her kids and grandkids. Years ago, Nellie worked at York Farms and then took a job working at Zellers when it first opened in Chilliwack. She worked there for many years and was always grateful for the wonderful lifelong friendships that she made while working there. Special thanks to all the staff at Valleyhaven for their compassionate care. A memorial service will be held at Woodlawn Funeral home on June 8, 2019 at 1:30 p.m.
