IN THE CARE OF
Restwood Funeral Home & Memorial Park
Gary Alan "Munchkin" Wilkes, went to be with the Lord Monday, May 6, 2019. His final days were spend surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Gary was born on October 23, 1957 in Freeport, TX to Travis Lee Wilkes and Brenda Lou Hutson Wilkes. Gary grew up in "Havenwood" and was known for his larger than life personality. He was an incredibly spirited man, who had many talents. He played the trumpet threw grade school, and continued onto the church choir; where he also became a Sunday school teacher.
He never passed up a chance to show off, from cooking crawfish and frying turkeys for family events and holidays to hunting in the off season. Gary was internationally known as "Munchkin" in the sport fishing world. He loved his family dearly, but he also loved being out on the water... the sea would always call him home. We thank God for the gift of his life and the blessing of the time spent with him, it felt too short; he fought to stay with the ones he loved, but his illness eventually took over his body but not his spirit.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry Wilkes; daughters, Felicia and Ashley Wilkes, Chelsea and Cody Doyal; and sister, Treva Stevens. His legacy will live on long after, with his first grandchild, Timothy Gary Hagemeier, expected this August. As Munch would say, "After U".
