Mary Louise Baker

Mary Louise Baker, 86 years old, of Lake Jackson, TX., began rejoicing in Heaven on August 30, 2019. Mary was born to Salyer and Annie Thompson on September 12, 1932 in Giddings, TX. Mary married Steve Baker in Houston, TX on August 20, 1952. Mary was from a large family. She was one of nine children and she raised five children, four sons and a daughter. When Mary's children were young she enjoyed taking them to the beach during the day when Steve was at work. The kids knew if they went in the water above their knees they were going home. They watched each other to be sure nobody broke the rule. She and her sister had a hair salon for seven years. She also worked part time at Jema's dress shop. In later years she volunteered at Brazosport Memorial Hospital and Habitat for Humanity as well as The Food Basket. She was a volunteer tutor at the youth home for several years. Mary was involved with extended family and always managed to stay busy. Mary is preceded in death by husband, Steve Baker; sons, Stephen Baker Jr., John Robert Baker and William Baker; parents, Salyer and Annie Thompson; brothers, Johnlo Thompson, Bob Thompson, Sam Thompson, Glenn Thompson; and sisters, Fay Holton and Frances Thompson. Mary is survived by son, Mark (Sonja) Baker; daughter, Suzie (David) Wessels; grandchildren, Joey Baker, Katie Riseman, Kevin Baker, Barrett Baker, Cara Wessels Wells, Angelica Baker, Steve Wessels and Blaine Baker. A Memorial Service will be held at Chapelwood United Methodist Church in Lake Jackson, TX beginning at 11:00 a.m. With a reception at the church following the service.
