Carl Lee Matthews

Carl Lee Matthews, age 84, of Conover, NC, passed away on Thursday, May 09, 2019, at Abernethy Laurels in Newton, NC. Born August 10, 1934, he was the son of the late Clarence Leroy Matthews and Helen Sigmon Matthews. Carl was an active member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Conover where he served on the Church Council and L.L.L. He retired from the furniture industry where he was Vice-President of Manufacturing. In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by sisters, Doris Harris, Georgia Faye Goforth; brothers, Perry Odell Matthews and James Allen Matthews. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 66 years, Ruby Fox Matthews; son, Barry Matthews and wife, Carolyn of Conover; daughter, Janet Adams and husband, John of Hickory; grandson, Troy Adams; sisters, Margaret Hefner and Gracie Bolick. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 6175 St. Peters Church Road, Conover NC, 28613, with Rev. Eric Haus officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 10, 2019.
