Obituary of Louie F. Short
Louie Francis Short left this worldly life June, 18, 2019. Known to family and friends alike as “The Fossil”, Louie was born September 2, 1926 in North Little Rock, Arkansas. A longtime resident of Mayflower, Louie loved all things outdoors including hunting and fishing and, most importantly, cutting and splitting firewood for his beloved wood stove. As a young man, Louie served in the Army during the end of WWII in the 1848th Area Service Unit. After his discharge and to provide for his family, Louie worked at a multitude of jobs over the years. He did stone and brick work, was a mechanic, car salesman, started one of the first fishing boat and outboard shops in Little Rock, was a real estate agent, flipped houses before it was cool to flip houses, and worked on heavy equipment, to name a few. Louie was one of the last of the Greatest Generation and survived many maladies and events that would have claimed a lesser man including tornadoes, floods, falls from height, lightning storms, and more than one snakebite. He was truly a man among men and was admired by many who knew him for his hard work ethic and tenacity. Survivors include former wife, Ramona Short Miller of Clinton, constant companion the past 30 years, Betty Bellinger of Little Rock, daughter, Donna (David) Binz of Mayflower, sons Keith (Terry) Short of Little Rock, Kevin (Kerry) Short of Mayflower, and David (Sherrie) Short of Vilonia. Louie was also blessed with seven grandchildren and a multitude of great-grandchildren. Louie was preceded in death by his parents, Clara Viola Walpole and Wesley Short, wives Belva Marie Kreiling Short Tanner and Hildaree French, brother Lee Short, sister Wilma Everhart, and son Vernon “Rusty” Short. Memorial service will be held 1:00 PM, Monday, June 24 at Friendship Baptist Church, 767 Rocky Point Road, Conway, AR with graveside services following at Crystal Hill Cemetery in Little Rock. Visitation will be 2:00 PM, Sunday, June 23 at Griffin Leggett Conway, 1751 Dave Ward Dr, Conway, AR.
