Jovita Olivia Masters

December 5, 1954May 29, 2019

Jovita Olivia Flores Masters, 64, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 surrounded by the love of her family and friends. Jovita or Jovie as many affectionately called her was born on December 5, 1954 to Arminda Gonzalez Flores and Noe Baltazar Flores in McAllen, TX. She was raised by her Grandmother Olivia and her mother Arminda. She quickly accelerated in her education and made many of life-long friends in grade school. This life-long group of friends is often known as “The Valley Girls”. Jovie attended the University of Texas in Austin where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Speech. Jovie moved to Dallas after university where she met Robert “Rob” James Masters. Rob and Jovie married in August of 1987 in Austin, TX. Rob and Jovie settled into the city of Coppell, TX where they raised their beautiful children. Jovie was not only a wonderful mother and wife but also a busy professional who always found time to love and support those in her community. Jovie was always the first person to volunteer to help a friend in need. She had a knack for crafting and an unsurpassed eye for detail. She strove to make those around her feel loved and cared for in every way. She taught everything from Bible class to professional management classes. Jovie also loved to volunteer to help find dogs forever homes. She was a people (and dog) person through and through. Jovie has touched many lives and truly made the world a better place. Jovie was preceded in death by her Grandmother Olivia, her mother Arminda and son Travis. She is survived by her husband of 31 years Rob; her daughter Olivia and husband Alex; her grandchildren Joelle and soon to come Baby Alderson. A vigil will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at St. Ann Catholic Church from 6pm to 8pm with the Rosary beginning at 7pm. A funeral Mass will be held at 10am on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at St. Ann Catholic Church, 180 Samuel Blvd, Coppell, TX 75019. The family would like to thank you all for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time.

I am shocked by this news. Jovie was one of my favorite co-trainers and I loved being in the back of the room watching her and listening to her, especially in Spanish. What a beautiful woman and a loss to this world . My sincere condolences to the all who knew and loved her.

What a wonderful woman. She was an instructor in a class I was taking for At&t. Jovie, Helen, Helen’s Grand Daughter, and myself all went to dinner one night. We had a blast just talking, relaxing, and laughing. She sent condolences to me when my son passed away. That was the last time I had heard anything from her but she left a lasting impression on me and truly is a fond memory for me. Go rest high on that mountain and say hello to my son for me. His name is Randy.

I worked with Jovie as a contractor at AT&T. She and I taught classes together. I enjoyed learning from her. We spent many weeks in Houston, sharing meals, swapping stories, and laughing. She was a real friend, supporting me when my husband was diagnosed with cancer. The last time we had lunch together in Southlake, Olivia was pregnant, and she couldn’t wait to be a grandmother. We spoke on the phone a few months ago and she bubbled over, sharing Joelle stories. Dear Lord, I will miss her smile, compassion, and friendship. I will cherish memories of her always and pray her family finds peace in their memories of an amazing woman! God bless.

So many beautiful memories of Jovie, Rob, Little Travis and baby Olivia. We were next door neighbors in Coppell for years. I will never forget what a beautiful person she was, inside and out.

From ballet as little girls to Chemistry in high school to advocating for Don’t Text & Drive as adults, I always admired Jovie’s God-given gifts, and especially her passion and drive for making the world a better place. We ran in different circles but she was one of those people you never forgot after you met her. She will be painfully missed by all who love her. ♥️

Jovie was an amazing godmother, cousin, friend! She was always at all of my major events. She loved life, dancing & music. Family gatherings or any milestone will not be the same without her but I know she’s watching from above. I take comfort in knowing she is joining our grandma, her mom, our uncles and Travis.

Jovie- esto no es adiós, es que te veré más tarde.
Siempre en nuestros corazones!!

Jovita Olivia Masters was my niece but we grew up as brother and sister. She was a 6th generation Texan and was named after both her grandmothers: Jovita Flores and Olivia González.

Jovie was full of life, was very outgoing, and had many friends. She loved dancing at a very early age.

Who could ever forget the perfectly written notes using a ruler and perfectly wrapped presents with everything color coordinated?

She was a family member that could always be counted on to show up for family events. We will always have lots of beautiful memories of Jovie.

We take great comfort in knowing that Jovie will be joining family members who have passed before her, especially Travis.

You will always be in our hearts.

Jovita, nunca te vamos al olvidar. Siempre estarás en nuestro corazón. Te queremos mucho.

We will always remember Jovie as a loving, caring, friend, mother and grandmother. Her contagious smile and her desire to promote happiness to all around her will be missed. On her last visit to San Angelo,Texas Jovie stayed with us and gave us the gift of herself. We shared many memories both recent and past. We laughed and we cried but at the end of our visit we were renewed with spiritual energy, insight and love. She will be missed greatly by us and we are sure she will also be missed by her family, husband, daughter, and granddaughter.
We love you Jovie.❤️
