Obituary of Beverley Marilyn Pisto
Bev passed away peacefully at the age of 84 at the Comox Valley Hospital. Bev was born in Kelowna B.C. She grew up in Nelson and remembered riding the streetcar as a child and enjoying ice skating, softball and sewing. Bev decided to become a teacher so she went to Normal School in Victoria in 1953 where she met her husband-to-be Freddy Pisto. They moved to the Comox Valley and Bev taught school for two years at the Airport Elementary School. Her son Tony was born, soon followed by her daughter Lori, and Bev stayed at home to raise her children, a job that she took very seriously. Bev was very active in St. George’s United Church serving as the church librarian for 25 years. She was the Chairperson of the Church Librarian Association of B.C. Bev was also an active Rotary-Ann and served as its President as well. Later in life Bev lived at Casa Loma where she enjoyed the social activities, the meals, reading and watching Jeopardy. Bev particularly loved doing crossword puzzles. At Casa Loma they often did a group crossword puzzle and Bev would have to hold back from answering the clues so that others in the room could have a chance to provide an answer, as she knew all the answers. Bev spent each summer at the Point Holmes beach cottages and the summer weekends at the cabin up Comox Lake. Bev was predeceased by her husband Freddy. Bev is survived by her brother Lorne (Wendy), her sister Marnie (Bill), her son Tony (Betty), daughter Lori (Jeff) and 5 grandchildren (Josh, Katie, Dylan, Jordan and Michael). A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. at St. George’s United Church. Donations can be made to the Comox Valley Community Foundation.
