Obituary of George "Gerry" Andrew Gerow
Obituary Notice for George Andrew Gerow (Gerry), who passed away on June 23, 2019 at the North Island Hospital. Born in Souris, Manitoba on January 31, 1934, Gerry graduated from Delta High School in 1952. He went on to have a distinguished career as an airframe technician in the Canadian Air Force, retiring as a Master Warrant Officer. He was posted to many bases through his career including Nanaimo BC, Portage La Prairie Manitoba, North Bay Ontario, Baden-Soellingen Germany (4 Wing), Edmonton Alberta, Trenton Ontario, Cold Lake Alberta, and, finally, to Comox BC. His proudest moment in the military was being awarded the Order of Military Merit by the Governor General of Canada in 1984. He retired in 1987, and settled in his beloved BC with his wife Norma Gerow. He then began a second career as a real estate agent, servicing the Comox Valley and worked as a free-lance writer for hunting and dog magazines. He also wrote a memoir called “Ground Crew, Recruit to Squadron Warrant Officer” chronicling his career in the air force. Gerry was predeceased by his parents Cecil and Lou-Ella Gerow. He leaves behind his wife of 45 years, Norma Gerow, four children: Bonnie Gerow (Colin), Jeri-Lynn Gerow (Wolf), Richard Gerow (Jacqui), Georgann Gerow (Harry), 3 step-children: Martin Ross, Daniel Ross (Liz), Laura Saunders, grandchildren: Jason, Jordan, Tristan, Amber, Anastasia, Sean, Charissa, Andrew, James, David, Bethany, Terri-Ann, Jared and Jessica along with numerous great-grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held at the 888 Komox Wing Royal Canadian Air Force Association at 1298 Military Row, Lazo, BC on Friday June 28th, 2019 at 1030 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations are gratefully accepted at the Salvation Army or the 888 Wing.
