Ruby Anna Stockand

STOCKAND, Ruby Anna (née Wingo) It is with deep sadness that the family of Ruby Stockand announces her passing on Monday, October 29, 2018 at the age of eighty-six. Ruby passed away peacefully at Cumberland Lodge surrounded by family. She was born in 1932 in Edson, AB, the sixth of nine children. At a young age her family moved to Cumberland where she attended school and then worked in the kitchen at the Cumberland Hospital. She married Albert Stockand in 1950 and eventually left her job to raise her children. Her family was her greatest joy and the most important thing in her life. In earlier years she enjoyed blackberry picking and making pies and jam with the berries. She also enjoyed reading, word search puzzles, music and her lottery tickets, which she purchased faithfully every week. After her move to Centennial Square she always looked forward to Thursday night crib with the ladies. She was a wonderful wife, mother, Nanny and Nanny Rubes. Ruby was predeceased by her parents Benjamin and Anna; husband Albert; son Richard; sister Clara; and brothers Oren, Bob, Jim and Bill. She is survived by her daughter Audrey (Lee); son Jimmy (Shelley); and daughter-in-law Trisha (Keith); grandchildren Allan (Janet), Cheryl (Pete), Brenda (Sean), Michael (Jennifer), Amy (Corey) and Jesse (Stephanie); twelve great grandchildren; sisters Dora and Nancy; brother Ben (Verna) and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of Cumberland Lodge for the exceptional care and compassion they provided Ruby in the time she resided there. There will be a Celebration of Ruby’s life on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.at the Cumberland Legion. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ruby’s name may be made to the Cumberland Lodge (Box 400 Cumberland, BC V0R 1S0).
