Obituary of Janet Kay Booker
Janet Kay Booker, 77, of Culver City, California, passed away the afternoon of June 5th, 2019, after battling a short illness. She was born to her late parents Ruben and Eileen Staege, October 6, 1941, in Rochester, Minnesota. Janet graduated from Saint Monica Catholic High School in 1959 and attended business school after graduating. Later in her career working as a teacher’s aide, she went back to college to get certified in sign language to work as a special education aide. She was married to Daniel Booker in 1962, and they lived together in Culver City since the 1960’s. Janet is survived by two children: Tami Marsland, of Roanoke, Texas; Mike Booker, of Winnetka, California. She is also survived by four grand children: Richard, Daniel, Kyle and Dakota and one great grandchild: Blake. Everyone who knew Janet knew she loved to cook. Not just basic everyday meals, but full blown special dinners, buffets and desserts. Even if she wasn’t hosting an event, she would still cook and bring food. Janet also had the gambling bug. She loved playing her video slot machines at all types of casinos anywhere they happened to be visiting. Her hobbies included spending time with her friends, many from her high school days, playing bunco or bingo and of course watching cooking shows. Janet was immensely proud of her family, especially the grandchildren and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories. We can still hear her say “Dan, make sure you eat something”. Viewing ceremony will be held on Wednesday June 12th, 2019 between 10 – 11 a.m. and services will follow in the chapel at 11:15 a.m. at Gates, Kingsley & Gates Smith Salsbury 4220 Sepulveda Blvd. Culver City, CA 90230
