Obituary of Dolda Lorraine Clarke
CLARKE, Dolda Lorraine – 85, of Dartmouth. On June 17th, in the early hours of the morning, Mrs. Dolda Lorraine Clarke of Dartmouth, NS chose to leave this world peacefully and join her husband, Leonard, on an eternal journey. Mrs. Clarke (nee Ricketts), born March 30th, 1934, was the only daughter of Mr. Thomas and Mrs. Edna Ricketts. She was pre-deceased by her husband and daughter, Beverly Susan Bealieu. Surviving her are her older brother, Dr. Thomas Ricketts of Scarborough, Ontario; her son, Barry and his wife, Paula, of Apex Mountain, British Columbia; and her little dachshund, Becky (Buckwheat). Mrs. Clarke graduated from Bishop Spencer College, NF and then attended King’s College where she met and married her lifelong love. Upon graduation, she worked at the Metropolitan Dispensary before starting a family. In her new life she became a mother and homemaker first and foremost. Then, as her children became older she returned to her pharmaceutical studies and obtained her phamacist’s assistant license. She worked and volunteered for years at the Dartmouth General Hospital being awarded a Certificate of Achievement for her efforts in the drug recycling program. The time she spent with her family at their summer home on Marvin’s Island, Chester Basin was a treasure to her. In later life, whether alone or with guests, she felt privileged just being there. The peace, solitude and family memories will be cherished into the Everafter. Mrs. Clarke was also a devout Anglican and was an active choir member of Christ Church. Her many charities included the Dartmouth General Hospital, SPCA, Red Cross, Anglican Church of Canada, Alzheimer’s Society, Symphony Nova Scotia and the Canadian Cancer Society. In lieu of flowers, a donation to any of the charities noted above would be appreciated. She led a quiet, yet strongly determined and focused life - an example to all. She will be sadly missed by all those who knew her kind, caring, generous and moral ways. Visitation will take place from 6-8 pm on Wednesday, June 19, in A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street. Funeral service will be held at 11am Thursday, in Christ Church, 61Dundas St. Rev. Kyle Wagner officiating. Burial in the Church Cemetery.
