IN THE CARE OF
A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home
It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Husband/Father James Leander Stevens, 96, of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. He was the son of the late James Alexander and Agnes Stevens. James was an avid gardener who loved to grow and tend to his own vegetable gardens. He loved to tinker in his garage and enjoy time at his cottage where he rode his beloved tractors and spent time hunting. James was an employee of Hawker Siddeley Canada (Dartmouth Marine Slips) for many years until his retirement in 1986. He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Winnifred Stevens; son, Donald Stevens; daughters, Beverley Fraser, Joanne Mannette, Linda Stevens and his two grandsons, Robert and James Fraser (both residing in Ontario). James is predeceased by his daughter, Carole Morton; sisters, Beatrice Hines (Percy) and Lillian Pettipas (Emanuel). The family wishes to thank the VON nurses that helped Dad at home during the weeks before being admitted to hospital and also the staff at the Dartmouth General Hospital for the kind and attentive care they gave him while he was there. A Celebration of Life is being held on Friday, April 5, 1:00 pm in A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth. Reception to follow. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
