Obituary of Mervyn Dexter Wagner
Age 81 of Dartmouth, passed away on October 26th in hospital. Born on April 10, 1937 in Midville Branch, he was the son of the late Melford and Gladys (Ritcey). He was a machinist by trade, and a creative problem solver and math whiz who could make pretty much anything just by looking at it. He retired early but soon found retirement wasn’t for him. He missed having a reason to get up and dressed every morning, and started his second career at Truefoam, where he worked until his diagnosis in July. Dad loved the simple things in life. He was an avid salmon fisherman and hunter. He loved roses, the colour red, smoked salmon, a good lobster, and trips to the camp. But his greatest loves were his grandchildren. Papa loved teaching them new things, from walking on stilts, to handstands, to math problems. And they loved that there were no rules at Papa’s house. He is survived by his wife Kathryn (nee Robar); daughter Michele (Barry); son Michael (Sheri); grandchildren Julia, Paige and Jack; siblings Gerald, Melbourne, Jeannie, Glenda and Millie. He was predeceased by grandson Max; siblings Mabel, Gene and Gale. Dad loved people but did not like to be the centre of attention. There will be no visitation by request. Cremation has taken place and a private family burial will be held at a later date. Thank you to our kind neighbours and the nursing staff at the Dartmouth General Hospital. Donations may be made in memory to the Canadian Cancer Society.
