Obituary of Wilfred "Will" Alexander Bona
With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Wilfred (Will) Alexander Bona, who passed on Friday, January 25th, 2019 at the Halifax Infirmary at the age of 54. Born in Baddeck, NS on May 26th, 1964, he was the son of Ronald and Lois Bona. Wilfred spent much of his early life working in the construction industry in his native Cape Breton, before moving to the Halifax area in 2001. Here he became involved in the scaffolding trade and joined the Local 83 Carpenters Union brotherhood. Wilfred excelled in this industry and was rapidly promoted to a supervisory position. He eventually came to earn the loyalty and respect of his coworkers and developed a well-deserved reputation as a hard worker and loyal employee. Known for his laid-back demeanor, he could take a joke as well as he could tell one. Always willing to offer a helping hand, Wilfred never met a stranger. A kid at heart, he thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his niece and nephews. Left to mourn are his son, Adam (Briana MacKenzie), daughter, Elyse (Gray Reed), his father Ronald, his brothers, Marcus (Lori), Abraham (Lorraine), sister, Michelle Erickson (Stephen), niece, Jensen, three nephews, Nickolas, Tyler and Tristan, his fur baby, Luna, many loving aunts and uncles. He is also survived by his friend of many years Sandy Paquet and his special friend Joyce Frizzell-Houghton. He was predeceased by his mother Lois, grand-father Patrick, nephew Daniel, godparents Jimmy Murphy and Joan Mombourquette (Murphy), as well as numerous aunts and uncles. Special thanks to the staff of the Cardiac Care Unit at the Halifax Infirmary for their kindness, compassion and professionalism. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Wilfred’s life will be held on Saturday, February 2nd at 11am in A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth, NS. A further celebration of life will be held in Wilfred’s hometown on Sunday, February 3rd at 2pm at the North River Community Hall 37 Oregon Road, North River Bridge, NS.
