Obituary of Margaret Florence Blackman
Blackman, Margaret Florence- Age 79 of Gilbert’s Cove passed away peacefully on January 24, 2019 at home surrounded by family. Born in Ashton-Under-Lyne, U.K., she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Ann (Wigley) Burrows. Mum came to Canada as a midwife, planning to stay for two years. Instead, she met Dad in the Yukon and they built a life together in Canada. She was a longtime volunteer, involved in many organizations and charities including Digby County Hospice Society, the Canadian Cancer Society, Christmas Daddies and Tideview Terrace. When she wasn’t out walking or snowshoeing, Mum was knitting, quilting, rug hooking and taking pictures of wildlife. Mum was a devout Catholic and devoted to her faith. Through the years, she was involved in many church activities. Mum was adventurous and would try anything once. This spirit of adventure continued to the end. Margaret is survived by daughters Clare (Jay Koh) Busan, South Korea, Karen (Craig Doucette) Weymouth; sons David, New Edinburgh, Kevin (Tiffany Hirtle-Blackman) Moncton, Martin (Heather Armstrong) Moncton; sister Bernadette; brothers Christopher, Joseph; grandchildren Kristen, Erin, Gillian, Peter, Meghan, Vincent, Kylie, Lucas; many nieces and nephews. Besides Margaret’s parents, she was predeceased by her groom Joe, son Paul and brother Peter. We appreciate the professionalism and compassionate care shown to Mum at both Digby and Yarmouth Hospitals, Clare Health Center, Weymouth Pharmasave, the VON and EHS. Visitation will be 7-9pm Friday, February 1, 2019 from Jayne’s Funeral Home, Weymouth. (902) 245-2525. Funeral service will be 11am Saturday, February 2, 2019 from St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Weymouth. Father Vincent Onyekelu officiating. Reception to follow at the St. Bernard Fire Hall with private family interment. Donations in memory can be made to the Gilbert’s Cove & District Historical Society or the V.O.N.
