Obituary of John Gordon Ogg
In the early hours of the 23rd of June (and the morning of his and Laurie’s wedding anniversary) John, our angel, beloved son, husband, brother, uncle, and best friend slipped away peacefully. John was predeceased by his father, Gordon in 2012. Forever cherished, missed and remembered by his wife Laurie, his mother Reita, his sisters Kathryn Ogg and Marilyn Pearson (Brian); his nieces Ella, Vanessa (Rob), Rhea and Branwyn and great-nieces Makayla, Isabella and Mya. Also lovingly remembered by his step-children, Carla (Dave); Jesse (Danielle); grandchildren, Alyssa, Jaden & Brynn; stepson Stuart (Kelsi) and grandchildren, Halen & Rylen. Many long-time, dear friends (you know who you are), and his many cousins across the country, also mourn his loss. John was a dedicated horticulturalist and grew many beautiful exotic plants in his home and garden. He started working at the Cowichan Lake Research Station in 1985 and worked there for 36 years. Under his care and guidance, millions of seeds were produced for propagation throughout coastal BC. He also made many friends in the forestry community. John faced a brutal diagnosis with dignity and grace. He endured years of treatment and stayed with us out of love, strength, and pure will-power as long as he possibly could, against many odds. For that we are eternally grateful. Although we are grief-stricken at our loss, we are thankful for the years that we had with him and for the health practitioners that were so good to him. John was always grateful for the kindness and the care that he received from Dr Rhoda Pullan; Dr. Valerie Masuda and Dr. Ronald Puhky. He especially appreciated the kindness of the nurses in the cancer ward and the ER at the Cowichan District Hospital. There will be a celebration of John’s life on Sunday, July 21, 2019 from 1:30-3:30 pm in the Arbutus Room (downstairs) of the Best Western Cowichan Valley Inn, 6457 Norcross Road, Duncan BC. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation to the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
