Obituary of Robert Edward James MD
Dr. Robert E. James passed away on June 9, 2019 at Littleton Hospital in Littleton, Colorado. At the age of 91, various health issues called him to heaven to be reunited with his late wife, Clarice. Bob was born on August 14, 1927 in Topeka, Kansas to Marriott Harrison James and Kathleen Elizabeth (O’Brien) James. Bob married Clarice Leola (Dorrance) James in 1948 in Denver, Colorado. She preceded him in death in August, 2015. Bob is survived by his five sons Bob Jr. (Joy), Mike (Leslie), Greg (Cindy), Doug and Bruce (Kelly), seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Both of Bob’s brothers, David and Patrick, also preceded Bob in death. Bob grew up in Norton, Kansas and moved to Denver in high school where he met Clarice at East High. He left high school early to enlist in the U.S. Navy and served honorably in the Pacific Theatre in World War II. Following the war, he returned to Denver and Bob and Clarice attended the University of Denver. Shortly thereafter they got married. Bob continued on to the University of Colorado where he received his M.D. degree. Bob did his medical residency at Hurley Hospital in Flint, Michigan and opened up a family medical practice in Flint with his fellow CU Medical School alumni, Dr. Louis Coriasso. They were medical partners for over 40 years and shared a passion of families and medicine and helped bring thousands of babies, and many generations, into this world. Bob served as Chief of Staff of Hurley Hospital, served on the Board of St. Joseph Hospital and served many community causes. He was also a long time member of Warwick Hills Country Club in Grand Blanc, MI. Bob was an amazing husband, father, mentor and friend. He felt truly blessed by his success and served as a role model to many, including his five sons. He and Clarice shared many passions together, including travel, golf and fishing, but most of all, they were truly at peace at their lake home on Elk Lake in Michigan. He could never get over that a poor kid from Western Kansas could enjoy the life that God gave him. He never took his blessings for granted. Services will be held at Kewadin United Methodist Church in Kewadin, Michigan on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at 11 a.m. In the early fall, a celebration of Bob’s life will also be held in Flint, Michigan, with details to follow.
