Ralph Alan Wills

On Monday, December 18, 2017, Ralph Alan Wills, age 67, of Fairfax VA, passed away peacefully at Virginia Hospital Center, Arlington, VA of heart failure. Born January 27,1950, in Arlington, VA, son of John Broddus Wills and Bernice Mildred Wills. He attended Fort Hunt High School, and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and obtained a degree in Forestry and Wildlife, 1972. He began his career at the United States Geological Survey (USGS) working as a surveyor. He then was employed by Fairfax County Public Works as an engineer, and expanded working in parallel with the Land Acquisition Park Authority. He served as the president of the Chantilly Youth Association (CYA) for 20 years. He spent numerous years umpiring for American Softball Association (ASA), coaching soccer, softball, basketball for CYA boys and girls of all ages. In 2002, he retired from the Fairfax County Park Authority and traveled to numerous national parks, and included trips to the Tetons, Yellowstone, Wyoming, Montana, and Alaska. He also enjoyed fishing, bowling, hunting and his family. Ralph and Martha Sue Good were married on April 8, 1990, at White Post Methodist Church, White Post, VA. They were happily married with many memories throughout 27 years. He is survived by his mother Bernice Wills, wife Martha Wills; his children from a previous marriage, Heather Byrd (spouse Ryan) and Lindsay Thomasson (spouse Chad); stepchildren Cecil Updike and Alena Swartz (spouse Virgil); and grandchildren, Clemson, Tyrus, and Virginia Byrd, Brianna and Alyssa Thomasson, Alice-Faye Swartz, and Mariko Swartz. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 28th at Demaine Funeral Home, 10565 Main Street, Fairfax, VA. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am, memorial service at 11:00 am, with a reception to following at Fairfax Baptist Church, 10830 Main Street, Fairfax, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Chantilly Youth Association, P.O. Box 220242, Chantilly, VA 20153 www.chantillyyouth.org.
