Joan Adele (Henriksen ) Crowell

Age 88 of Goodlettsville, TN Joan was preceded in death by her brother, C. David Henriksen (Jo Ann Soule) of Corona, CA. She is survived by the following: Brother: Glenn F Henriksen (Ruth), Bothell, WA. Mother of four children: Karen Gaines (Mike) of Old Hickory, TN; Debra Sue Crowell of Goodlettsville, TN; Charles Kevin Crowell (Lynn) of Lewisville, TX; Carl R. Crowell of Goodlettsville, TN. Seven Grandchildren and three Great-Grandchildren: Ryan Vega (Wildrie Alvarez) of Ooltewah, TN, Great-Grandsons, Caleb and Noah Vega; Jimmy Gaines (Kelsey Dobbs) of Chattanooga, TN; Julianne, Jenna and Sean Gaines of Old Hickory, TN; Sarah Grace Crowell of Nashville, TN. Stephen Patrick Crowell, Great-Grandson, Benjamin Ryan Crowell of Lewisville, TX. Niece and nephew Lisa Henriksen Backer (Rush) and Scott Henriksen. After graduating from Forest Lake Academy, Mom continued her education at Florida Sanitarium to become a Registered Nurse. She worked many years as a RN in Orlando, FL and Madison, TN, all whilst raising her four children. She devoted herself to her life calling as Director of Nursing for the Department of Correction for the State of Tennessee. She was always proud of the professional and empathic care she provided inmates, whom she inspired on a daily basis to become better citizens. She always considered this her mission and her expression of God’s work. Joan retired in Goodlettsville to enjoy time with her family. She especially enjoyed the birds and wildlife that frequented her yard. She enjoyed cooking for family, particularly on the holidays. Her passion, however, was gardening. The charming roses, colorful peonies, and bountiful hostas that she grew brought her immeasurable joy. Mom was a bright, charismatic, faithful soul who touched everyone she met. She will be missed immensely by all. In lieu flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G Komen Foundation.
