Winston Hobbs With immense sadness, Winston Hobb’s family announce his sudden death at home in the early hours of Saturday morning. Left behind to mourn his passing and celebrate his life are, his wife Audrey Siddall; son, Brett; daughter, Jillian; granddaughter, Chelsey Andrews; brother, Randy (Pat); nephew, Mike; niece, Kim and grandnephew, Jacob; brother Harvey’s son, Stephan, Quebec; sisters, Bonnie Turanki, Ottawa; Classy Nehrke, Chicago; Audrey’s loving family living in NB and throughout Canada, aunt, cousins and friends. Predeceased by his brother, Harvey and parents, Eva and Joseph. A sheet metal worker by trade for 21 years for Department of National Defense (DND) Halifax, McTara Mills, Upper Musquodoboit, as a millwright supervisor for 6 years. Winston excelled in his last 15 years working long hard hours as an accomplished home renovator with many a satisfied customer praising his attention to detail, insight and going the extra mile. Winston always found great pleasure and comfort in music, guitar playing, sharing a “yarn” over a “cuppa” (cup of tea) or one of his famous pit fires and of course sharing times with family and friends; loved to make you laugh and he so had a hearty laugh. He had such a great laugh and a bright wide smile that would make you light up just looking at him. As a young boy going to a summer camp they named him “Big Chief Laughing Horse” for his deep laugh, his great sense of humour and wit that has always stayed with him which we will so miss. Winston loved nature in all its form and wonderfulness seeking an adventure/outlet, be it deer hunting with his buddies, younger years rabbit hunting with his brother Randy and his beagles. Come the month of May, there was no stopping Winston to gather his canoe, fishing supplies, earlier years a Newfoundland trappers tent and his own designed stainless steel stove and tea pot to so enjoy the comradely of fishing with best “bro” Lawrence in all their secret spots. As an avid canoeist, Winston was thrilled to have navigated the pinnacle of his adventures canoeing 200 miles of the Grand River AKA (Churchill) Labrador. Circumstances were such that Winston’s partner was not able to be with him from start to finish so he heighten the odds and paddled solo with the tea and guide to complete this onerous challenge proudly without fail August 2002. Later that week Winston was wrapped in a bear hide, accepted a bear’s tooth and proudly became a member of “The Order of the Black Bear Tooth, Grand River” Winston will be missed driving in to “Tim’s” in his 1979 Toyota or 1995 Eddie Bauer Bronco. He loved to repair and work on all his old vehicles throughout the years, never had a desire to own a new vehicle. He was of a calm nature, an inquisitive mind, and working and repairing vehicle, designing and making unique “things”, was proud of his home although, as everyone knows who is married to a extra busy person, it didn’t always first on his list even though he would have liked it to. A special thank you to Dr. Donald Fay for always being there. So, have a cuppa, a good yarn, and remember to please take time to enjoy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope for Wildlife, any animal rescue and the West River-Sheet Harbour Acid Mitigation Project.
