Viola M. Grider

Mrs. Viola M. Grider, 98, of East Ridge, entered the gates of Heaven on Thursday, May 9, 2019. She was born in Chattanooga on October 2, 1920 to the late Clarence S Durand Sr. and Gladys Hendricks Durand. Viola was a member of Cross Path Baptist Church (formerly East Ridge Baptist Church) for many years. She spent her life in service to others and always taught her family to do the same. She was preceded in death by her first husband, R.L. Carver; second husband, Roy Grider; sons, Clarence Ronald Carver Sr. and John E. Carver Sr.; son-in-law, Joe Tocco; and brothers, William Durand and Clarence S. Durand Jr. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Peggy Yvonne Tocco; daughter-in-law, Teresa Carver; 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 13th from 4-8 pm and from 12-1 pm on Tuesday, May 14th at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel, Hixson. There will be graveside services on Tuesday, May 14th at 1:00 pm at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with Dr. Ronnie Mitchell officiating.
