Charles Edward McEachern

On October 6, 2019, Charles Edward McEachern passed away quietly at home surrounded by his daughters at the age of 90 years old. Charles is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years Patricia Vera McEachern. He is survived by four daughters; Charlene and Don Manning of Centerville, Texas, Debra Saum of Houston, Texas, Linda and Randy Bacon of Conroe, Texas, Sandy and Bubba Priesmeyer of The Woodlands, Texas and by his brother Jerry and wife Anna Karen McEachern. Charles is also survived by his nine grandchildren; Valaree, Kimberly, Ryan, Kirk, Rachele, William, Sarah, Rebecca and Guy. He was fortunate to live long enough to enjoy 12 great-grandchildren; Kylie, Sean, Travis, Kimberely, Patrick, Jade, Rory, Jayden, Harley, Kince, Addison and Lola. Charles was born on January 26, 1929 in Mexia, Texas to Trebor and Jessie Mae McEachern. He honorably served his country in the Navy during the Korean War on the USS Benewah as a Fireman. He later married Patricia Vera Hughes; together they raised four daughters. Charles was a charter member of the Hidden Valley Baptist Church where he served as deacon for many years. He had fond memories of Wednesday night visitation with the community and discussing the word of God. Always one to stay busy, he worked at The Murillo Company until the age of 80. After he retired, Charles lovingly took care of his wife Pat. He loved to work with his hands, and through the years provided his friends and family with lifelong treasures. You could always find him in the yard tending to his plants and flower beds as if they were his children. Charles was known for his sense of humor, there was never a dull moment when he was around. Making people laugh was his top priority and he made the most of each day. Charles was a loving and supportive husband and father, always allowing you to make your own mistakes, and never saying I told you so. He loved to cook and feed his family, making sure you never left his house hungry. His shrimp creole was a family favorite! Papa was always up for a visit from his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and you could be sure an ice cream cone would be part of the activities. Charles had a kind and gentle spirit and will be deeply missed by family and friends. A memorial service will take place Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at 11:00 am with a reception to follow at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038.
