Obituary of Angus Bernard MacDonald
MacDonald, Angus Bernard, 105 It is with love and sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our father, Angus Bernard Mac Donald, on December 11, 2018, in Inverary Manor, Inverness, with his devoted family by his side. Angus Bernard MacDonald, 105, was the youngest son of Mary MacDonald (MacDonald) and Alexander MacDonald of Port Hood. Dad was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Dad was born and lived his entire life in Marble Hill, Port Hood where he married Annie Mae Mac Donald (MacDonell), whom he cherished (Deceased June 26, 2018). He was a great provider and a proud father of his 13 children: Alex (Sandra), Donelda (Craig), David (Sherry), Coline (James), Bernie, Joe, Bea (Todd), Maureen (Bob), Allan (Heather), Paul (Marguerite), Patricia (Steve); 23 grandchildren, 8 great- grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sons, Bernard and Joseph who died in infancy; and two daughters-in-law, Mary and Elizabeth; and siblings, John A., Marcella and Dougald Joe and a brother in infancy, Angus Ronald. Dad attended Port Hood Academy. He was a licensed Electrician and Plumber and Oil Burner Mechanic, one of few tradespersons in Nova Scotia to have three Red Seal certifications. He retired at 90 and maintained an ongoing consultative role with family and friends. Where do we start to describe our 105 year old father: a man of a few words, who when he spoke, we listened.... to his wisdom and his expectation that we be accountable. We marvelled at: his deep thinking ability, his zest for life and unending curiosity and quest for knowledge, his resourcefulness and patience to find a solution to whatever electrical or plumbing problem that presented itself, his genuine interest in everything and everybody, his strong work ethic, stoic personality, his story telling, his remarkable memory and keen mind until his last moment. Dad loved a good tasty meal followed by a cup of tea (milk in first) from a china cup. As much as he loved being around home he made some very special trips, especially a return to Goose Bay, Labrador, where he worked during WWII. A very special thank you is extended to the entire staff at the Inverary Manor, especially the staff in The Highland Villa whose special care and compassion during Dad’s stay filled him with joy. Thank you to Dr. Suzie Egar for her steady commitment to Dad’s ongoing health and the Pallative Care Team for their support. Visitation will be held in Port Hood and Area Resting Place on Thursday, December 13 from 7-9 p.m. and Friday December 14, from 2-4 and 7-9p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 15, in St. Peter’s Parish Church, Port Hood, with Fr. Vincent vanZutphen officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Port Hood Cemetery Fund, Ronald MacDonald House, or to a charity of your choice. On-line condolences may be made to:www.invernessfuneralhome.com
