Obituary of Harry "Jack" Wallace
Wallace – Harry Jackson “Jack” Wallace of Jacksonville, FL passed from this life on Sunday December 11, 2016. He was born in Mulberry, FL November 9, 1926. His family moved to Fort White, FL when he was 2 years old and he resided there until he moved to Jacksonville, FL in 1947. He was employed at the Florida Theater from 1947 until 1949 when he began working for St. Vincent’s Medical Center where he established the hospitals first Respiratory Therapy department. He retired from St. Vincent’s after 43 years of service. On March 13, 1989 by special proclamation signed by former Mayor Tommy Hazouri, the City of Jacksonville in partnership with St. Vincent’s Medical Center honored Mr. Wallace by declaring March 13, 1989 to be Harry Jackson Wallace Day in honor of his avid dedication and tireless contributions to medicine. Mr. Wallace is preceded in death by his wife Gladys Marie (Davis) Wallace, his father Frank Wallace, his mother Lena (McCormick) Wallace, his three siblings: Raleigh Wallace (Margie), Elmer Wallace (Geneva), and Norman Wallace (Merle). He is survived by his children: Russell Wallace (Johnette), Wyman Wallace, Daleen Wallace Bishop (Gil), and Don Barnard (Mary). Also 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Based on the wishes of Mr. Wallace there will not be a viewing or visitation. There will be a graveside funeral service Friday December 16, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at the Elim Baptist Church cemetery located at 6855 S. W. Elim Church Road, Fort White, FL 32038. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in memory of Harry Jackson Wallace to the Taylor Foundation, 6601 Chester Avenue, Jacksonville, FL 32217.
