Richard William Etling

Richard W Etling, age 92, passed away peacefully after a short illness on September 22, 2019. Richard was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and retired from the Police Department in Akron, Ohio after a 25 year career.
Richard never met a stranger and left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He enjoyed spending time with his family, good food, being outdoors, playing cards, and visiting with friends. Richard’s humor, natural curiosity and love of life helped him make friends everywhere he went. He will be missed by all those who had the opportunity to know him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Betty; daughters Alice Phelps (Buddy) and Carol Royer (Tom); grandson Brian Royer (Tracie) and granddaughter Erin Harlow (Brent); 4 great-grandchildren Lily, Morgan, Payton and Logan; siblings Donald Etling, David Etling, Annamae Gonier and Alice Tobias; sisters-in-law Evelyn Akers (Larry) and Margaret Parsons; multiple nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Norman Etling and his sister Jean Andrews.
