Obituary of Allan Sutherland
Allan Sutherland passed away at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital on Monday, March 4th 2019, one day after his 78th birthday. Allan was born in Kenora on March 3rd, 1941 to Lil and John Sutherland. He leaves to mourn his passing his daughter Hayley (Randy) and their children Hilary and Matthew; son Michael and his children Lyndsey (and daughter Isabella) and Jordan (partner Brittney, daughters Addison and Scotlynn); Allan’s sister Isabella Stewart (Graham), nieces Sandra, Heather and Rhonda and their families. His four legged companions Taz and Sprite will also miss him terribly. Allan lived in Kenora his entire life. He started working for the Department of Highways (now Ministry of Transportation) as a teenager and retired from there at age 52 after more than 30 years of dedicated service. He was a jack of all trades and could fix just about anything. People were always bringing him lawn mowers, weed eaters, chainsaws etc. to fix and he always seemed to be able to bring them back to life. He was a classic car fanatic and had many beautiful old vehicles over the years including a red 1956 Thunderbird, many different 1966 Mustangs, a corvette, and an extremely rare 1978 Cadillac Opera Coupe. He belonged to the Kenora Classic Car Club for many years and loved meeting with other car buffs at A&W to show off their cars, socialize and then go for a cruise. He was involved for many years in organizing the Classic Car show during Harbourfest. Allan loved to travel and went on many vacations with his daughter and her family including road trips to the East and West coast of Canada, several cruises to the Caribbean, Panama Canal and Hawaii, and a trip to Disney World. His favourite cruise was one he took to Alaska with his daughter, his sister and brother-in-law followed by a train ride on the Rocky Mountaineer. He loved animals and took in many rescue pets over the years. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the doctors and nurses of the ICU and 3rd East for their wonderful care of Allan during his last days. At Allan’s request there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to It’s a Dog’s Life or the Cat Shelter. Online condolences may be made at www.brownfuneralhomekenora.com BROWN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE ENTRUSTED WITH ARRANGEMENTS.
