Obituary of Flora Cameron
Flora Cameron (La-lash) Kaabii’ondug – Shaguy Dootamin Yellow Thunderbird Women – Adopted by Grizzly Bear Clan March 9, 1965 – June 6, 2019 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Flora Cameron. A resident of Wabaseemoong, Flora passed away in the morning of June 6, 2019 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre at the age of 54 years old. Flora is predeceased by her daughters, Anita and Ashley Cameron. Her parents Maurice and Rose (nee Cameron) Carpenter, sisters Maureen, Sharon, and Violet, brother Nicky, grandson Zachery Kakekagumic, nieces Carla, Connie and Alyssa Carpenter, nephew Fred Carpenter, grandparents, Charlie and Florence (nee Wagamese) Carpenter, and Alec and Margaret (nee Kelly) Cameron, uncles Robert, Percy, Allan, Eli and Albert Carpenter, Eddie, Patty, and Louie Cameron, aunties Mary Cameron and Doris Carpenter. Flora will be deeply missed by her loving partner, her “hunny bunch” Larry McDonald, daughters Clara and Wanda (George), grandchildren Lakeisha, Shania, Kris (Christina), Briana, Quinton, Terick, Shaye, Dawson, Eva, Ashen, Georell “Bernard”, Jordelle, Rozhonda, Justine, Haylee, Samurai, Samara and Maurisa, and great grandson Aaron. Siblings, Sandra (Lance), Louie (Leigh-Anne) Pauline, Randall. Nieces Rosaline, Maureen, Cheyenne, Frances, Marcella, Nephews, Nicky, Ringo, Charlie, Sheldon, Keenan, Mikey, Steven, JR. and other nephews, nieces too numerous to mention. Uncle Fred Cameron, Aunties Eva Cameron, and Maryann (nee Cameron) Carpenter and many more uncles and aunties. Flora loved teaching and worked both at the Wabaseemoong and the Mizhakiiwetung Memorial School for over 17 years and created life long friendships with many staff and community members. Flora was a very outgoing person and had addictive smile, as such she made many friends through her travels going to school, events, and the nurses at the hospitals. She was also a very caring, compassionate and generous person and would help anyone in need and made efforts to travel long distance travels to visit her family and friends. She loved making moccasins, moss bags, she learnt from her mother, and loved giving them as gifts. She also enjoyed cooking with her daughters and having family dinner gatherings. She enjoyed a good fishing challenge and entered the “Reel Women Fishing Derbies”. Her way of showing her deep love for her grandkids, she made nicknames for each and everyone of them. Wake services will begin on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at 10:00 am at the Mizhakiiwetung School gymnasium. Traditional funeral service will be held on Thursday June 13, 2019 at 11:00 am.
