Obituary of Margaret Poirier
Margaret Poirier March 8, 1929 – October 29, 2018 Born Margaret Violet Ann Gosling on March 8, 1929 at Ipswich in Suffolk, England to Herbert and Harriet Gosling with her twin sister, Elizabeth (Betty) who is 89 years of age in Ipswich, England, Her mother, father and six brothers are all deceased. Margaret married Charlie Poirier on September 3, 1955 in Ipswich when Charlie was serving with the Canadian Armed Forces as a Bombardier. He was posted to Winnipeg, Man., in December, 1955. Margaret moved to Canada with him, residing in Winnipeg until 1963 where their only child, a son Martin, was born on May 22, 1957. Charlie's life with the armed forces took him to Rivers, Man., where the couple resided until he was called to serve in Vietnam from April 1965 to April 1966. Margaret followed her husband with their son moving to Picton, Ont., from there to Ottawa with Charlie serving the Canadian Armed Forces Base in Uplands until he retired in January, 1973. They remained in Ottawa area living in Ingleside, Ont., until Charlie went to work with Parks Canada in Cornwall, Ont. Charlie, once again retiring, encouraged Margaret with son Martin, to settle in Kenora in 1992 where they set up residence on Valley Drive, then moving into Benidickson Court in 2003. Margaret was a very quiet person enjoying watching television and knitting. Both she and Charlie became members of the New Horizons Senior Citizens group when it first functioned in a building next to the old fire hall, now The Brewery. Through the seniors group Margaret showed her lovely singing voice by joining the Seniors Choir under the direction of Jane Dobinson and as a couple they joined in many of the seniors' social events. She loved to dance and with her husband at scores of army bases the couple would brighten up the army's social scene dancing the nights away. Due to her failing health and the onset of Dementia Margaret was settled in at Pinecrest Home for the Aged just after Christmas 2010 where she received the very best of care and compassion. Funeral Service will take place in the Pinecrest Home for the Aged auditorium with Father Rudy Manaloto officiating on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at 10:00 am.
