Obituary of William Costa Geros, Jr.
William Costa Geros, Jr., 64, went to be with the Lord on Monday (September 2, 2019). Costa was born on January 24, 1955 in Knoxville, TN. Costa attended Knox Central High School in Knoxville Tennessee where he was a trumpet player in the band under O'Dell Willis and Norman Woodall. He graduated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville with a B.S. in instrumental music. Costa was a member of the UT marching and concert bands. Costa retired from Cherokee High School in 2015, completing 38 years of dedicated teaching. He was the band director at Virginia High School in Bristol, VA, Sullivan South High in Kingsport, TN, and Cherokee High in Rogersville, TN. Costa was a member of East Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association, Tennessee Music Educators Association, and the National Association for Music Education. Costa was awarded Lifetime Honorary membership in the East Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association in 2017. Costa's bands were active in marching competitions, concert festivals, parades, and band clinics. Band was his life. He instilled a level of excellence in his band programs. After 38 years of teaching, Costa continued working with area bands with band camps, rehearsing groups for concert festivals and private music lessons. Costas faith was strong. He had served as a choir director in his church. A highlight in his life was a recent visit to Israel. His hobbies included gardening, antiquing and his love of the arts. Costa will be remembered for his level of excellence in teaching and his jovial personality. Costa was preceded in death by his father, William Costa Geros, Sr. and brother, Peter Geros. Left to cherish his memory are his former students, friends, and colleagues. Visitation will be held on Sunday (September 8, 2019) from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 5 p.m. in the chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home with Bro. David Dotson officiating. Costa will be laid to rest on Monday (September 9, 2019) at 11 a.m. at Lynnhurst Cemetery (2301 Adair Drive Knoxville, TN 37918). Friends will serve as pallbearers.
