James Lee "Jasper" Proffitt

James Lee “Jasper” Proffitt, age 88, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at the Pointe in Cedar Park where he resided. Born in Stephenville, Texas on January 7, 1931, Jasper spent his childhood in his favorite Texas town, Hico, where he will be buried. He also lived in various Texas towns (Levelland, Dimmitt, Lubbock, Ropesville, and Austin) before moving to his final residence in Cedar Park. Jasper and his wife Nell were faithful members of the Westover Hills Church of Christ for over 40 years where he served as a deacon. During his life, Jasper worked in his father’s service station, farmed, worked as a construction superintendent and a maintenance man at a daycare facility. His final career, and probably his most favorite, was his work as an exterminator, first working for Research Pest Control then opening his own business as Jasper’s Pest Control. Jasper loved people, including all of his customers who often saw Jasper as an extended member of their family. When he ultimately had to retire because of mobility issues, he often said he most missed seeing and visiting with all of his many customers. Funeral services and visitation will be Tuesday, September 3 at the Westover Hills Church of Christ at Steck and Mesa in Austin. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. The funeral service will start at 11:00 a.m. The interment will be at 10:30 at the Hico cemetery in Hico, Texas on Wednesday, September 4. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to New Mexico Christian Children’s Home in Portales, New Mexico.
