Obituary of Donna Rae Morden
Donna Rae Morden, of Calmar, passed away at the age of 74 on Wednesday October 24, 2018. She was the eldest daughter born to the late Ray and Iona Dixon on June 26, 1944. She grew up on the family farm southwest of Calmar, she graduated from Calmar High School and later attended NAIT. She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on October 11, 1969. Shortly after, she married and became a homemaker and found her joy raising her children and volunteering time teaching others about the wonderful hope found in the Bible. Donna was an active member in both her community and local congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Donna will be remembered for her mild, kind, and gentle spirit. She had a smile for everyone. One of her favorite scriptures was Proverbs 25:11 which says: “Like apples of gold in silver carvings is a word spoken at the right time”. She often made the effort to say words of encouragement, whether it was to young ones who would give a bible reading for the first time or when she made sure of being at her grandson’s first public talk. She loved being around people; whether family, spiritual brothers and sisters or friends from town. Donna could often been seen enjoying her daily walks downtown, or her trips to Leduc where she could visit, shop, meet for lunches and have coffee with all her friends. Music was an important part of Donna’s family life growing up. She loved to hear her Father play his musical instruments, and often accompanied him with her beautiful voice. She enjoyed singing Kingdom songs and associating with the friends in the congregation. No matter what she was enduring, music would always lift her spirits and bring her joy. One of the last great memories her family has, is of her dancing with Al and Her boys at a family dinner. Her favorite time of the year was the spring, she loved to see the flowers bloom, and the return of warmer weather. She loved surrounding herself with flowers. Donna married Allen Morden on June 2, 1973. They moved to Calgary where they started to raise their three boys; Kent, Alan and Kyle. The family was very close to the congregation. Her love for the brothers and sisters and her hospitable nature moved them to host a congregation bible study in their home for over 10 years. Donna often visited the older sisters that lived nearby to encourage them and spend time together over tea. When one sister was dying of cancer, she and her husband visited the couple regularly to lend support. Later, the family relocated back to her home town, Calmar, where she has lived with her husband since. Donna was delighted to see her children draw close to Jehovah and reach many milestones in their lives. She was particularly happy to see her oldest grandchild get married in the spring of this year. Donna is lovingly remembered by her Husband, Allen, of 45 years, her three children, Kent (Esther), Alan (Cheryl), Kyle (Bailey), six grandchildren, Gaberiel (Sarah), Joshua, Alexis, Keihen, Kaidyn, Molly, and her sister Valerie (Larry) Pinkoski, Her nieces Charmaine and Janelle, her nephew Blair (Alaina); along with a number of other loving relatives and close friends. Mom’s funeral and burial are not far from her home where she spent the majority of her life. The family wishes to thank, from the bottom of their hearts, all of those who showed empathy and compassion towards her, as she struggled with her health concerns. She has been laid to rest beside her Father and Mother at the Willow Creek Cemetery. Donna’s funeral is to be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 4611-50 Street, Calmar, AB on Tuesday October 30, 2018 at 2:00pm. Family will lay her to rest beside her parents at the Willow Creek Cemetery at 12:30pm. The family requests that in lieu of flowers please make a donation to support disaster relief at donate.jw.org.
