Obituary of Helen Mae Mitchell
LYNN – Helen Mae (Carvalho) Mitchell, 84, a lifelong resident of Lynn, passed away on Thursday, May 9th Union Hospital in Lynn. Helen was the devoted wife of the late Lester Mitchell with whom she shared over 23 years of marriage. She was the strong and loving mother of Susan Leo and husband, Anthony of Peabody, Donna Sullivan and her husband, Richard of Salem, Maureen Mitchell and her companion Peggy Cannon of Danvers, Kelly Mitchell of Florida and the late Joann Mitchell; the cherished grandmother of Andrea Leo, Anthony Leo, Jr., Richard Sullivan, III and Brian Sullivan; the dear sister of the late Frank Carvalho and his wife, Dodi Carvalho of Rockport and the late Doris Day and the aunt of several nieces and nephews. Born and educated in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Mae (Alphonse) Carvalho. She graduated from Lynn English High School with the Class of 1952. Helen was part of a group of several close friends of over 50 years, her “Card Club” who gathered to play Uno , card games, and to socialize at least once a week at each other’s homes for all those many years. She enjoyed reading and word search puzzles. Helen was known for loving the Red Sox and always smiling and offering a friendly greeting. She also loved the view of High Rock Tower. Most of all, Helen loved spending time with her family and helping to care for her grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held at Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Monday, May, 13th, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. on Monday in the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Joseph, Cemetery, Lynn.
