Roy L. Cohen

HAZLET - Roy L. Cohen died Thursday, August 8, 2019 at Bayshore Hospital, Holmdel. He was 92. Born in Newark, he resided in Lyndhurst before settling in Hazlet 37 years ago. Prior to retiring, he was a travelling salesman, selling tools and hardware supplies, for his entire career. Roy was very active in the Seniors Club in Keyport and loved travelling - especially on cruises. He was a Navy veteran in World War II and acted as a Navy photographer. He captured photographs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki 3 days after the bombings, as well as President Truman moments before the treaty was signed. More than anything, Roy loved spending time with his family. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 36 years, Ruth Cohen. Surviving are his children: Scott Cohen and his wife Nancy, Iris Scielzo and her husband Ron, Neil Whitman and his wife Anne, Steven Whitman and his wife Diane, and Marcy Schnier and her husband Andy; 10 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held on Sunday at 11AM at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge, NJ. Interment will immediately follow. Memorial contributions may be made in Roy's name to Temple Shalom, Matawan, NJ.
