Obituary of Sheila Devine Stanczyk
Sheila Devine Stanczyk (nee Prenderville), of Tinton Falls, NJ formerly of New City, NY passed away peacefully on September 17, 2019 at the age of 89. Sheila was born on May 4, 1930 in Bronx, NY to Mary Catherine Sullivan and John Joseph Prenderville. She graduated from St. Pius Commercial High School in the Bronx. Sheila married her high school boyfriend Thomas Fitzpatrick in 1950. Upon his tragic death in the Korean Conflict, as a young war widow she moved to Washington, DC where she worked for the Central Intelligence Agency. Sheila married Charles Devine in 1956 in Our Lady’s Chapel of St. Patrick’s Cathedral. The couple moved to New City where they raised their two children. After Charlie’s death, she was lucky to find love again and marry Edward Stanczyck in 1972. Sheila and Ed enjoyed many happy years together, even attending about a dozen Super Bowl games. Sheila loved life and being busy. She had a long and varied administrative and secretarial career, working for Schwall and Carroll Lawyers, IBM, General Foods and Anderson and Moore Builders. But her last job may have been her favorite one of all – as the audio-visual lady in the New City Library. She belonged to many clubs – West Nyack Senior Citizens, Red Hats, Ya-Ya Card Club, the Giant Club, Birthright, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Altar Rosary Society and Gold Star Wives. She was a good and generous friend to all, always willing to lend a hand, tell a joke, or organize a party whenever needed. Sheila made many new friends in her new home and was an Ambassador welcoming new residents to her senior living community. Everyone who met her walked away with a laugh feeling better about themselves. The greatest joy of Sheila’s life was her family. She moved to New Jersey to be closer to her daughter and son-in law and they spent many happy times these past few years. She is survived by her daughter Dori (Devine) and son-in-law Harry Hillson, and son Chris Devine. She is also survived by her devoted sister and dear friend Peggy Landau, her grandchildren Tyler and Samantha Devine and “bonus” Hillson grandchildren Michael (Sachi), Alyssa, Sean (Samantha), and Ariana and great grandchildren Danny, Ethan, Trent and Alma. Sheila was predeceased by her loving husbands Tommy, Charlie and Ed. Visiting will be held at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home, 321 S. Main St., New City, NY on Friday, September 20 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 128 Parrott Rd, West Nyack, NY at 10am on Saturday, September 21, interment will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery, Nanuet. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sheila's memory to United Hospice of Rockland, 11 Stokum Ln, New City, NY 10956.
