Obituary of Jerome Hughes Riggs
OBITUARY FOR JEROME RIGGS Jerome passed away peacefully at his Fair Haven Society home in Vancouver on October 17, 2019. Predeceased by his wife Kathleen, parents Arthur and Helen, brothers Dennis and David, he is survived by his sister Jeanette (Todd), brother Julian (Gail), and numerous nieces. nephews, aunts, uncles and loving members of his wife's family. Jerome had an incredible 47 year career with Superior Stamp and Stencil in Vancouver where he was a in charge of the printing room. He was truly the "laminating" and "stamp-making" King to his family and friends. He was an excellent athlete in his younger years, and enjoyed spectator sports - especially baseball and football. Kathy and Jerome were in regular attendance at Vancouver Lions games. He had an aptitude for "numbers" and was a master crib player. Another passion of his, was assembling the most difficult jigsaw puzzles faster than anyone. Jerome was a man of faith and a long-time Elder in the Trinity Lutheran Church for the Deaf in Vancouver. Jerome was a loving husband to Kathy for 31 years, and her tragic loss, 15 years ago, had weighed on his mind constantly. They were schooled together at Jericho Hill School for the Deaf , and after marrying in 1973 they shared a wonderful loving, fun-filled life together. They had an endless network of friends, and their marriage and close friendship was blessed beyond expectations. The silver lining in Jerome's passing, is that now they are together once again and can continue on, where they left off. We extend our sincere appreciation to the staff at Fair Haven Society home and their sincere loving care that was given to Jerome on a daily basis. A special thank you is extended to Nurse Practitioner, Amanda Crockett. who managed Jerome's health care with extraordinary insight and compassion. May God bless and keep him forever in the palm of His hand. He was a one- of-a -kind son, brother, husband and friend. We were all blessed to have JR in our lives. A Celebration of Life for Jerome will be held in the Spring.
