Derrick J. Slater

Derrick J. Slater, 57 of Sherburne, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday May 23, 2019. He was predeceased by his father, Ralph Slater, Jr. Survivors include his mother, Barbara Squires Albertina, of Sherburne; his sisters and brothers in law, Sharon Parker and Hubert Neer, of Norwich, Debby and Mike Bishop, of Norwich; his step-daughter, Tanya Law, of Smyrna; his grandchildren, Morgan Brooks, of Smyrna and Dustin Smith, of Smyrna; his nieces and nephews, Pam and Jason Nichols, of South New Berlin, Jim and Jessica Parker, of New Berlin, Amanda Stiles and Tom Vitale, of Worchester NY, and Christina Stiles, of Norwich; as well as many great-nieces and nephews. Also surviving are Derrick’s cousins who were like brothers to him, known as “The Slater Boys”. Derrick was a lover of music and he greatly enjoyed spending time in the outdoors observing nature. Spending time with his family was very important to him and he will be remembered for his unique sense of humor, his card playing talents and enjoying a cold can of Coors Light. No formal funeral services will be offered at this time, a celebration of Derrick’s life will take place privately at the convenience of the family.
