John "Robert" Chesney

John Robert Chesney, 83, of Olathe, Kansas passed away surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at the Olathe Medical Center. He will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, grandpa, Pa-Pa and friend to everyone he met. “Robert” as he was known by his family and friends was born on January 23, 1936 in Olathe, Kansas to Emanuel William and Alma Loretta (Patton) Chesney. He attended Olathe High School. He served his country honorable in the U.S. Army, then through time he transferred to the U.S. Navy. Robert was employed with Delco Battery for many years. He became self-employed painting houses and worked as a Bus Aide for First Student for seven years before retiring. Robert enjoyed fishing, and was an avid sports fan supporting his favorite teams, KU Basketball, Kansas City Royals and the Kansas City Chiefs. He enjoyed spending time with his immediate loving family. Nothing gave him more pleasure in life than spending time with his grandchildren. Robert was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and an active member of the America Legion Post 153. He will be sadly missed. Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Emanuel and Alma Chesney. He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Sharon Chesney of the home, two stepdaughters, Deana Ann Brim (Michael) of Osawatomie, Kansas and Kimberly Michelle Staley and her husband Jeff of Olathe, Kansas. Left behind to cherish his memory are his five grandchildren, Dacia Ybarra and her husband Josh, Tera Standing Cloud, Jacob Staley, Amanda Staley, Joshua Staley and one great granddaughter, Honor Gilpin. “Celebration Of Life” 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Thursday evening, May 16th at the McGilley & Frye Funeral Home 105 East Loula Street Olathe, Kansas. Military Honors for his dedicated services will conclude the service Thursday evening.
