Nelson A. Wells Sr.

Nelson Alfred Wells, Sr. 93, the first of a third generation, went home to be with his Lord April 29, 2019, at A.O. Fox Nursing Home. He was born in North Clymer, N.Y. the son of the late Anna (Ingram) and Alfred T. Wells. Nelson served his country in the Army Airforce during WWII as a ham radio operator in Okinawa Island. After his tour of duty, he relocated to Oneonta. He married Lena Belle Martin on August 29, 1943 and had a blessed marriage of 73 years. Nelson worked at the North Feed Store, the D&H Railroad Depot, and went to be an iron worker for N.Y. Local #158 Binghamton where he worked a both colleges in Oneonta as an iron worker. He also worked for the City of Oneonta as Sr. Plant Mechanic at the water treatment plant. Nelson was a long-time member of the West End Baptist Church and also attended the River Street Baptist Church. He was also a member of the V.F.W. Post #1206, Oneonta. He was a loving husband and wonderful father who spent time with his children. Nelson loved the outdoors cutting wood, hunting and mowing the grass. Nelson was a skilled carpenter and mechanic and a "jack of all trades". He was was also the world's biggest kidder. Nelson is survived by his daughters Priscilla Rotolo, Oneonta, Linda (Wells) Holtsmaster, South Gibson, PA, Sandy Morin, Oneonta, Ginger and Paul Butler, Oneonta; daughter-in-law, Violet Wells and grandson Nelson A. Wells, III of Oneonta; his sister Marilyn Beck of Lancaster, PA.; 16 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 73 years Lena Belle (Martin) as well as his son Nelson Wells, Jr. Calling hours will be held from 11 AM to 12 PM in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oneonta. Funeral Services will be held immediately following in the Bookhout Funeral Home with Rodney Dirig, Pastor of the Oneonta Community Gospel Church, officiating. In lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions may be made to Community Gospel Church, 12 Grove Street, Oneonta, N.Y. 13820 Committal services will follow in Bundy Cemetery, Otego with Military Honors.
