RETIRED TREASURY BOARD SECRETARIAT
Peacefully, on Father’s Day, June 17, 2018, Edward Albert Baxter was called to his heavenly home. Devoted and loving husband of the late Ruth (Gavan) for nearly 60 years. Dearly loved father of Elaine (Don McLeay), David and Michael Baxter (Barbara); loving grandfather of Meaghan, David, Laura and Serge; fondly remembered and respected by many nieces and nephews. Pre-deceased by his parents Hiram Baxter and Lillian McKee and by four brothers and four sisters.
Ed served with distinction in the RCASC for more than five years during World War II in Canada, the UK and Northwest Europe and was mentioned in dispatches. Following the war, he had a progressively successful career as a public servant in many departments and agencies of the Government of Canada until his retirement in 1975 from the Treasury Board Secretariat. He was very active as a volunteer in many community and church-based organizations including the CNIB, South-East Ottawa Citizens’ Planning Committee, parent-teacher organizations, the Christian Family Movement, St. Vincent de Paul Society, parish councils and social action committees.
The family will receive friends at McEvoy Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road (at Albion) on Friday, June 29, 2018 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service in the Chapel at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Notre Dame Cemetery. Donations to the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation, the Monsignor Paul Baxter Foundation or a charity of choice would be appreciated.
