Obituary of Gerald "Gerry" Lauridant Charron
Charron, Gerry 1937-2018 Gerald Lauridant Charron, 81, passed away November 26th, 2018 with family by his side in Ottawa, Ontario. Gerry was born on April 8, 1937. He grew up in the heart of Westboro with his parents and four siblings. He is preceded in death by his father Damien, his mother Myrtle (nee Tourangeau) and his brothers Bunny (Barbara), Robert (the late Barbara) and Wayne (Marg). He is survived by his sister Judy (Jim McCarthy). In 1955 Gerry went west to work on the pipelines around Edson, Alberta. He returned home in 1956 with a new wife and son. He is survived by his wife Ruth (nee Grieves); son Don (Shauna) from Manville, Alberta and their children Damien, Danielle, Davin and Darcy; daughter Brenda and her children Krista Forster (Dave Sumners) and great-grandson Phoenix, Shannon (Joe Broome ) and great-grandchildren Carter and Emma; and son Glenn (Gwen). In 1963, Gerry and his partner Joe Mlikan, started J&J Auto Service, offering gas, automotive repairs, towing and cartage services. Originally a FINA gas station at Bank and Walkley, they moved to Sieveright Road around 1981, selling the business in 1999. After retiring, Gerry worked part time driving for Enterprise Rent-A-Car until early this year. With a love of fishing and the open road, Gerry explored much of North America by car with family and friends. Jasper, Alberta, Fort Myers, Florida, Prince Edward Island and the coast of Alaska were his favourite places to visit. When not on the road, Gerry could be found at his second home at Crooked Rapids Campground in Eganville, Ontario. Visitation at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road, on Thursday, December 6 from 10 – 11 am followed by a funeral service in the chapel at 11 am. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or The Bruyère Foundation.
