Stephen Elliott Reynolds

Stephen E. Reynolds, 91 of Parkersburg, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Parkersburg Care Center. He was born February 23, 1928 in Elizabeth, WV, the son of the late Vincent A. and Margaret Martin Reynolds. Stephen served with Company F, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, in the early days of the Korean War. He arrived in Pusan, Korea on August 19, 1950. On the evening of September 21, Stephen suffered wounds from a burp gun which nearly cost him his left arm and grenade shrapnel in his legs. In addition to these wounds he contracted malaria. His decorations included the Purple Heart, World War II Victory Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Combat Infantry Badge. He worked for the Railway Transportation Division, United States Postal Service in Pittsburgh, PA from October 1, 1952 to May 1956. He returned to Parkersburg, WV where he went to work for the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier on January 20, 1960. He remained there until his retirement on February 25, 1983. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Korean War Veterans Association. He is survived by two daughters; Glenna Lee of Weirton, WV, Tammy Lawson of Marshalltown, IA, 5 grandchildren; Stephen Christopher Reynolds, Evan Lawson, Lyndsay Swiger, Sarah Swiger and Jennifer Hill, brothers; Clifford A Reynolds, Palestine, WV, Paul E. Reynolds, Parkersburg, WV and his beloved niece, Joyce Archer of Washington, WV who was like a daughter to him and took care of his needs. He was preceded in death by his second wife; Norma Cox Reynolds, daughter, Alberta Ruth Hill, son, Stephen Ray Reynolds, sister, Alice Reynolds Dickerson Linger, brothers, Eugene, Jess, Vincent, George, John, Clarence, Lawrence, Simon and James. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 5, 2019 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Parkersburg, WV. Funeral Services will be Thursday, June 6, 2019 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Dave Compston officiating.
